What Are Your Go-To Thoughts?

- - Uncategorized

We all have ‘em:

Thoughts, ideas, phrases, expressions, internal dialog…

Our go-to thoughts are those ones we repeat to ourselves often.

They reveal how we see things, how we reason—how we explain what’s going on in life.

Let me share a few of mine:

• I enjoy getting older. I keep getting better… better looking, wiser, and stronger.

• Every challenge has a blessing and reward waiting for me right around the corner.

• What they’re doing (that shocks, annoys, or confuses me) somehow makes sense to them. No one intentionally tries to sabotage their own life.

• There is much beauty in life that is waiting to be discovered.

• The best is yet to come. My greatest days are before me.

• God is for me.

You probably noticed—my go-to thoughts tend to be full of peace, joy, and life.

Perhaps you’ve also noticed that some people’s go-to thoughts tend to be full of fear, doom, and gloom…

• Here we go again.

• Nobody notices me.

• Why do things always have to be so difficult?

• Things used to be so much better—back when…

• You just can’t trust anyone anymore.

The book of Daniel records Daniel praying to God out of concern for his people…

And God sends Daniel a message, repeated 3 times:

“You are greatly treasured.”

“Your God thinks highly of you.”

“You are greatly treasured. All will be well with you.”

It seems to me that God used repetition to emphasize something he wanted Daniel to know, believe, and have as his very own go-to thought…

• God treasures me, he thinks the world of me, and he’s got me covered.

I love it. In fact, I’m gonna adopt this as one of my own go-to thoughts.

So, how about you?

What are your go-to thoughts?

Please share! I’d love to hear ‘em…

Maybe I’ll adopt some of yours too!

I am a husband, father, pastor, leader & reader. I love God, love people & love life.

    I like “It doesn’t matter if I understand.” I have a similar one: “I don’t know and that’s OK.”

    Thanks for sharing!

    Tomorrow is a new day

    God’s got it under control

What can I do to make this even better

  4. Angela—I really like…

    I’m gonna grow from this

Prolly won’t adopt “Because I’m the mommy and I said so”

  5. “I don’t really know…”

    “Well, it’ll be fun…”

“I’m pretty sure in the end, we win.”

    During a game:

    “Let’s go boys!”

    “You’re better than that.”

    • I’m pretty sure I’ve heard you say “It’ll be fun…” on a number of occasions.

I love “I’m pretty sure in the end, we win.”

  6. “Ee’rbody’s got their own kinda crazy.”

“God, if you won’t calm the storm [at this time], please call ME.”

“I’m blessed to be a blessing.”

“Jesus, take the wheel.” (I know… I know… But it’s better than “Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike – If I like the girl who cares who you like!”)
