I remember your gun story–it makes me smile when I read it. I grew up in a house that had positive views of firearms: remember being knocked on my keister when trying to hit a target with my brother’s hunting rifle; my dad built a backstop into the hill in the pasture for my older brothers to practice on; My brother-in-law is a gunsmith; I’ve eaten the wonderful results of their hunts; my mother has a .22 she shoots at squirrels and starlings with. We don’t and won’t own one–I don’t hunt (the only legitimate reason for owning one in my mind) and neither of us could hit anything anyway–we would be very hungry. I appreciate your extension on the mentioned scriptures–we defend ourselves most boisterously on issues we seem to have the most trouble being obedient to. The other little detail I see is that we often mix our “American rights” with our “Christianity”, without looking closely at what Jesus really taught by His words and actions.
