Agree! Christians are not called to have an agenda or talking points or sound bites. We are like slow food - good for the rushing world, if it can just gear down long enough to taste and see that the Lord is good. Or perhaps like rest points for the heart along the information highway. I especially like your thought that we should understand we are called "to listen, to give of ourselves, to be a friend with no other agenda than friendship" and Brian Becker's thought that we should " walk with them on the path of grace." I believe the more we adopt these very Christian behaviors, the quieter we will become.

Oh, that everyone would read this. Great post Brian. Our credentials to speak mustn't be our varying educational degrees and titles. Rather, the right to speak should be one of invitation due to the time, empathy, and compassion we have given to those in our care. If non-Christians give more of the latter they will have not only the louder voice, but the most received as well. It is our privilege to first turn water into wine, expose people to the goodness of God, and then walk with them on the path of grace in the way we should go.

Love this post.

Hated the maxim:

Don't try to convince anyone of anything.

As a young youth pastor I was convinced this was my calling.

I have opinions on lots of things. I do my best to express them carefully & infrequently.

However, in my opinion this is your best post in 2015.
